career:

A civil mining engineer who made geological explorations in Panama Isthmus, Borneo, the Caucasus, Africa, Ivory Coast (1882), California, the Antilles, Venezuela and Ceylon.

Author of some papers relating to Borneo.1

Millettia chaperii Gagnep. from Borneo (coll. Nov. 1890) was named after him.

1890-91. Leaving Paris (Aug. 23, 1890); Singapore (Sept. 17-Oct. 2); W. Borneo: Sambas (5); Bay of Padang-Tikar, sailing into the Koeboe branch of the Kapoeas, Kapoeas ketjil, Pontianak (6); by boat (16) ascending the Kapoeas River to Sanggau, Sekadau (18), Sepau, Belitang, and Sintang; proceeding the 23rd, reaching the confluence with the Sebroeang (27), and Semitau; exploration of the Sebroeang River, Sg. Knapei (Kenepai), Penindoe River, Sg. Mang, Sg. Ajoe, and visiting G. Rajoen and G. Oejan (6 weeks from the end of Oct. onwards); Semitau; leaving Semitau (Jan. 9, 1891), Sintang (10), and back at Pontianak (21); Singapore (31).
