Born: 1894, Steinmaur, Switzerland. Died: 1957, Zürich, Switzerland.

 

career:

Botanist-ecologist, educated at Zürich (Ph. Dr 1928); travelled and studied in Europe (1921-24), and made an expedition to New Caledonia and the Loyalty Islands in 1924-26, paying a visit to Australia in that period; since 1929 acting leader of the Botanic Garden and Museum, Zürich; in 1933 appointed Extraordinary Professor, and in 1939 Ordinary Professor and Director of the Botanic Garden and Museum.

Author of several ecological papers, not concerning the Malaysian region.

 

Collecting localities:

1926. When home-ward bound from the expedition to New Caledonia and the Loyalty Islands, he visited the Malaysian region, viz: E. Timor: Dilly; E. Java: Soerabaja; W. Java: Bandoeng (Apr.), G. Tangkoeban Prahoe, Lembang, Buitenzorg, Priok; Malay Peninsula: Penang, Kuala Lumpur.
