Born: 1906, Delft, Z.H., Holland.

 

career:

Botanist, educated at Utrecht University, taking his Ph. Dr’s degree in 1931; in 1931-32 completing his studies in France and England for the Rockefeller Foundation. In 1936 he came to Buitenzorg, granted part of the Buitenzorg Fund, staying there from May-August. In August he travelled over Java, visiting experimental stations etc.1 In the same year appointed Industrial Adviser of the D.E.I. Government, in charge of fibre and textile research, stationed at Djokjakarta (1937-40), and subsequently at Batavia. In 1947 on a study tour in the U.S.A.

 

Collecting localities:

1936. W. Java (before July): G. Salak, Tjibodas, Goeha Gadja, etc.-1937-40. Centr. Java: in Djokjakarta Principality, specially round Kalioerang, between 1000 and 1400 m alt., G. Merapi; G. Kloet (= Keloed).

 

collections:

Private Herbarium of c. 3000 numbers; about one third was saved after Japanese occupation. For his private use he made lists of 510 species collected all over Djokjakarta, and of 326 species collected round Kalioerang. Plants partly identified at Buitenzorg.
