career:

Botanist (Corpus, Cambridge) and horticulturist who joined the Oxford Expedition to Sarawak1 as a photographer and assistant botanist.

 

Collecting localities:

Oxford Expedition, 1932. NW. Borneo, Sarawak. See sub P.W. Richards. In October Synge fell ill and was transported to hospital. He recovered too late to join the expedition at the base camp and went to see the Niah Caves.

 

collections:

cf. sub Richards. Synge was especially concerned with orchids and pitcher plants.2 Living orchids were sent home to Sir Jeremiah Coleman.3 His collections were separately numbered.
