Born: 1807, Amsterdam, Holland. Died: 1892, Haarlem, Holland.

 

career:

Botanist, working for some time in the Herbarium at Leiden; in July 1830 appointed member of the ‘Natuurkundige Commissie’ (Commission for Natural Sciences) for the D.E.I., making several tours in the Malay Archipelago. In 1837 he returned to Holland and was pensioned off in 1843.

The genera Korthalsia Blume and Korthalsella v. Tiegh., and several plant species were named after him.
