Garcinia andersonii Hook.f., Fl. Brit. Ind. 1 (1874)
Named after T. Anderson [1832-1870], a British physician and botanist.

Description
Upper-canopy tree up to 48 m tall and 60 cm dbh. Stem with yellow latex. Leaves opposite, simple, penni-veined, glabrous, venation very conspicuous. Flowers ca. 8 mm diameter, white, placed in bundles in the leaf axils. Fruits ca. 44 mm diameter, yellow-red, fleshy berry, seeds with aril.

Ecology
In undisturbed mixed dipterocarp and sub-montane forests up to 1500 m altitude. Usually on hillsides and ridges, but also on alluvial sites and along rivers. Mostly on sandy soils. In secondary forests usually present as a pre-disturbance remnant tree.

Distribution
Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo (Sarawak, Brunei, Sabah, South- and East-Kalimantan), Philippines.
