Ellipanthus beccarii Pierre, Fl. Coch. 5 (1898)
Named after Odoardo Beccarii [1843-1920], an Italian botanist.

Synonyms
Dichapetalum tetramerum Ridl., Ellipanthus mindanaensis (non Merr.) Merr., Pseudellipanthus beccarii Schellenb., Pseudellipanthus peltatus Schellenb.

Description
Understorey tree up to 16 m tall and 19 cm dbh. Twigs densely hairy. Leaves alternate, simple, penni-veined, base slightly peltate. Flowers ca. 3 mm in diameter, white-yellowish, usually 4 merous, dioecious, placed in axillary bundles. Fruits ca. 18 mm long, green-brown, dry pod, seeds with aril.

Ecology
In undisturbed mixed dipterocarp, keranga and peat swamp forests up to 900 m altitude. Mostly on alluvial sites, but also present on hillsides and ridges with sandy soils. Also found on limestone. In secondary forests usually present as a pre-disturbance remnant tree.

Distribution
Sumatra, Borneo (Sarawak, Brunei, Sabah, South- and East-Kalimantan).

Note
Vegetatively indistinguishable from Ellipanthus tomentosus.
