Latin for 'lateral', referring to the position of the inflorescences.
Synonym
Diospyros crassipes Bakh.
Description
Understorey tree up to 18 m tall and 22 cm dbh. Stipules absent. Leaves
alternate, simple, penni-veined, glabrous. Flowers ca. 3 mm in diameter, white,
with corolla tube, placed in small bundles on the twigs. Fruit ca. 25 mm long,
green, fleshy berry.
Ecology
In undisturbed forests up to 20 m altitude. Mostly on sandy ridges. In
secondary forests usually present as a pre-disturbance remnant tree.
Distribution
Thailand, Sumatra, Borneo (Sarawak, East-Kalimantan).
