Description
Sub-canopy tree up to 27 m tall and 27 cm dbh. Stipules ca. 4 mm long. Leaves alternate, simple, penni-veined, hairy below. Flowers ca. .7 mm in diameter, yellowish, placed in compressed racemes. Fruits ca. 19 mm long, yellow-orange-red, dehiscent capsule, seeds with orange aril.

Ecology
In undisturbed mixed dipterocarp and sub-montane forests up to 1600 m altitude. On river- and hillsides with clay to sandy soils. In secondary forests usually present as a pre-disturbance remnant tree.

Uses
Wood is used for house building. Fruits are edible.

Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo (Sarawak, Sabah, West-, Central- and East-Kalimantan).
