Latin for 'with large stipules'.
Description
Understorey tree up to 14 m tall and 20 cm dbh. Stipules ca. 18 mm long,
curved. Leaves alternate, simple, penni-veined, glabrous, sometimes margin
slightly toothed. Flowers ca. 0.3 mm in diameter, green-yellow, placed in
racemes. Fruits ca. 12 mm long, yellow-orange-red, dehiscent capsule, seeds with
orange aril.
Ecology
In undisturbed mixed dipterocarp forest up to 400 m altitude. Mostly on
alluvial sites, i.e. floodplains and riverbanks. On clay to sandy soils, also on
limestone. In secondary forests usually present as a pre-disturbance remnant
tree.
Uses
Fruits are edible.

Borneo (Sarawak, Brunei, Sabah, West-, Central-, South- and
East-Kalimantan).
