Description
Understorey tree up to 18 m tall and 30 cm dbh. Stipules ca. 6 mm long, curved. Leaves alternate, simple, penni-veined, hairy. Flowers ca. 0.3 mm in diameter, yellowish, placed in racemes. Fruits ca. 8 mm long, yellow-orange-red, dehiscent capsule, seeds with orange aril.

Ecology
In undisturbed mixed dipterocarp, sub-montane and keranga forests up to 1200 m altitude. Mostly on hillsides and ridges, but also common on alluvial sites on sandy to clay soils. In secondary forests usually present as a pre-disturbance remnant tree.

Distribution
Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo (Sarawak, Brunei, Sabah, West-, Central- and East-Kalimantan).
