Description
Sub-canopy tree up to 25 m tall and 33 cm dbh. Stipules ca. 4 mm long. Leaves grouped terminally on twigs, alternate, simple, penni-veined, hairy below, with conspicuous nectary glands on lower surface. Flowers ca. 1.3 mm in diameter, yellow-cream, placed in branched inflorescences. Fruits ca. 18 mm long, yellow-red-brownish, fleshy (indehiscent) capsules, seeds with white arils.

Ecology
In undisturbed peat swamp, freshwater swamp or keranga forests up to 600 m altitude. Always on alluvial sites with poor sandy to clay soils. In secondary forests usually present as a pre-disturbance remnant tree.

Uses
Shoots used in longhouse construction. Fruits are edible.

Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo (Sarawak, Brunei, Sabah, West-, Central- and East-Kalimantan).
