Latin for 'bend down'.

Description
Sub-canopy tree up to 29 m tall and 43 cm dbh. Stipules ca. 5 mm long. Leaves grouped terminally on twigs, alternate, simple, penni-veined, hairy below, sometimes with clear nectary glands on lower surface. Flowers ca. 1.5 mm in diameter, white-yellowish, placed in racemes. Fruits ca. 20 mm long, green-yellow-brownish, fleshy indehiscent capsule, placed on the stem, seeds with orange aril.

Ecology
In undisturbed mixed dipterocarp forests up to 200 m altitude. On alluvial and dry sites with sandy soils. In secondary forests usually present as a pre-disturbance remnant tree.

Uses
Trees sometimes cultivated in forest gardens for the edible fruit.

Sumatra, Java, Borneo (Sarawak, Sabah, West-, Central- and East-Kalimantan).
