Description
Mid-canopy tree up to 33 m tall and 48 cm dbh. Stipules ca. 3 mm long. Leaves alternate, simple, penni-veined, glabrous, crowded at twig tips. Flowers ca. 1.3 mm diameter, yellow, placed in racemes. Fruits ca. 10 mm long, orange-red, dehiscent, ramiflorous capsules, seeds with red aril.

Ecology
Mostly in undisturbed mixed dipterocarp forests, but also found in keranga forests up to 800 m altitude. On hillsides and ridges with sandy to clay soils. In secondary forests usually present as a pre-disturbance remnant tree.

Uses
The wood is locally used to make parang sheaths and for house construction. The fruits are edible, and trees are sometimes cultivated in forest gardens.

Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo (Sarawak, Brunei, Sabah, West-, Central- and East-Kalimantan).
