Description
Understorey tree up to 19 m tall and 13 cm dbh. Stipules ca. 5 mm long.
Leaves crowded at twig tips, alternate, simple, penni-veined, glabrous. Flowers
ca. 1.3 mm diameter, yellowish, placed in racemes. Fruits ca. 20 mm long,
purplish, cauliflorous (base of stem), indehiscent capsules, seeds with whitish
aril.
Ecology
In undisturbed mixed dipterocarp forests, but also in keranga, sub-montane
and (peat)-swamp forests up to 1100 m altitude. Often on alluvial sites, but
also on hillsides. On sandy to rocky soils. In secondary forests usually present
as a pre-disturbance remnant tree.
Uses
Wood locally used as boxwood. Fruits are edible.
Distribution
Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo (Sarawak, Sabah, West-,
Central-, South- and East-Kalimantan).

Notes
Vegetative almost indistinguishable from Baccaurea odoratissima.
