Description
Sub-canopy tree up to 23 m tall and 28 cm dbh. Stipules ca. 8 mm long, very
narrow. Leaves alternate, simple, penni-veined, densely hairy below, base
strongly (unequal) cordate. Flowers ca. 3.5 mm diameter, green-whitish, placed
in short stalked axillary bundles. Fruits ca. 3 mm long, white-pink-purple,
dehiscent capsules, seeds with orange aril.
Ecology
Mainly on disturbed or open sites in mixed dipterocarp and keranga forests
up to 400 m altitude. Often found along roadsides and forest edges, but also on
open places on hillsides and ridges.
Distribution
Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Borneo (Sarawak, Brunei,
Sabah, South- and East-Kalimantan).
