Named after the Philippines, where this species is native.

Description
Mid-canopy tree up to 35 m tall and 60 cm dbh. Stipules ca. 1.5 mm long. Leaves alternate, simple, penni-veined, glabrous, secondary veins clearly looping, margin often slightly toothed. Flowers ca. 2.3 mm diameter, green-yellow, placed in panicles. Fruits ca. 25 mm long, green-whitish, dehiscent capsules, seed with bright red aril.

Ecology
In undisturbed mixed dipterocarp forests up to 500 m altitude. Mostly on hillsides and ridges with sandy to clay soils, but also found along rivers. Also on limestone. In secondary forests usually present as a pre-disturbance remnant tree.

Distribution
Burma, Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo (Sarawak, Sabah, West-, Central-, South- and East-Kalimantan), Philippines, Celebes.
