Description
Emergent tree up to 64 m tall and 94 cm dbh. Stipules triangular, ca. 1 mm
long, dropped early. Leaves alternate, compound with leaflets opposite, penni-veined,
glabrous. Flowers ca. 4 mm diameter, white-yellow, corolla tube with many
protruding stamens, flowers placed in branched or umbell-like inflorescence.
Fruits ca. 94 mm diameter, brown-black, curled up, indehiscent pod, breaking up
in one seeded fragments, seed dull brown.
Ecology
In undisturbed mixed dipterocarp, keranga and (peat)-swamp forest up to 200
m altitude. Often on alluvial sites near rivers and streams, but also on
hillsides and ridges. On sandy to clay soils. In secondary forests usually
present as a pre-disturbance remnant tree.
Distribution
Borneo (Sarawak, Brunei, Sabah, West- and East-Kalimantan).
