Description
Sub-canopy tree up to 22 m tall and 28 m tall. Stipules absent. Leaves
alternate, compound, leaflets opposite, penni-veined, hairy below. Flowers ca. 6
mm diameter, yellowish, with protruding stamens, flowers placed in branched
inflorescences. Fruits ca. 65 mm diameter, reddish-orange, curled, dehiscent
pods. Seeds black, remaining attached to opened pod.
Ecology
In undisturbed to slightly disturbed mixed dipterocarp forests up to 100 m
altitude. Along rivers on sandy soils. In secondary forests usually present as a
pre-disturbance remnant tree.
Uses
Roots used for poulticing boils. Wood locally used for beams. The fruits are
used in curries and chutnies.
Distribution
Burma, Indo-China, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Lesser Sunda Islands,
Borneo (East-Kalimantan).
