Description
Understorey tree up to 20 m tall and 36 cm dbh. Stipules absent. Leaves
alternate, compound, leaflets opposite, tripli-veined, glabrous. Flowers ca. 7
mm diameter, white-yellowish, protruding stamens, flowers placed in branched
inflorescences. Fruits ca. 80 mm diameter, red-brown outside, red-orange inside,
curled, dehiscent pods. Seeds black, remaining attached to pod after opening.
Ecology
In disturbed to undisturbed mixed dipterocarp, swamp and sub-montane forests
up to 1300 m altitude. On alluvial places, but also common on hillsides and
ridges. On sandy to clay soils.
Uses
Roots used to make handles for parangs. Crushed shoots mixed with water are
used against malaria.

Borneo (Sarawak, Sabah, West-, Central- and East-Kalimantan).
