Blume
Description
Sub-canopy tree up to 24 m tall and 43 cm dbh. Stipules absent. Leaves in
whorls, simple, penni-veined, hairy below, whitish below. Flowers ca. 5 mm
diameter, white-yellow, placed in bundles. Fruits ca. 20 mm diameter,
orange-red, fleshy drupes placed on enlarged disc-shaped flower base.
Ecology
In undisturbed mixed dipterocarp, swamp and sub-montane forests up to 1000 m
altitude. Common on swampy or periodically inundated sites and along rivers but
also found on hillsides. On clay to limestone soils. In secondary forests
usually present as a pre-disturbance remnant tree.
Distribution
Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Borneo (Sarawak, Brunei, Sabah, West-
and East-Kalimantan), Celebes.
