Description
Mid-canopy tree up to 37 m tall and 90 cm dbh. Stipules absent. Leaves in
whorls, simple, penni-veined, lower side hairy and whitish. Flowers ca. 6 mm
diameter, yellowish, placed in bundles. Fruits ca. 18 mm diameter, yellow-red,
fleshy drupes placed on enlarged disc-shaped flower base.
Ecology
In undisturbed mixed dipterocarp, swamp, keranga and sub-montane forests up to 1400 m
altitude. In alluvial sites and along rivers, but also on hillsides and ridges with clay to sandy soils. In secondary forests usually
present as a pre-disturbance remnant tree.
Distribution
Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Borneo (Sarawak, Brunei, Sabah,
Central-, South- and East-Kalimantan).
