Description
Sub-canopy tree up to 30 m tall and 27 cm dbh. Stipules absent. Leaves
alternate, compound, leaflets penni-veined, glabrous. Flowers ca. 1 mm diameter,
pale yellow, placed in panicles. Fruits ca. 18 mm diameter, grey-yellow-orange,
fleshy capsules. Seeds with translucent aril.
Ecology
In undisturbed mixed dipterocarp, keranga and sub-montane forests up to 1700
m altitude. Usually on hillsides and ridges with clay to sandy soils. Also found
on ultramafic soils. In secondary forests usually present as a pre-disturbance
remnant.
Uses
The durable timber is used. The fruits are edible.
Distribution
Indo-China and Thailand to the Moluccas. In Borneo collected in Sarawak,
Sabah, West- and East-Kalimantan.
