Latin for 'fragrant'.
Description
Understorey tree up to 12 m tall and 15 cm dbh. Stipules absent. Leaves
alternate, compound, leaflets penni-veined, glabrous. Flowers ca. 1.5 mm
diameter, white-yellowish, placed in panicles. Fruits ca. 14 mm diameter,
orange, fleshy capsule. Seeds with aril.
Ecology
Usually planted as an ornamental in gardens and along roads, but some
specimens found in mixed dipterocarp forests up to 800 m altitude.
Uses
Strongly perfumed flowers used for scenting tea or clothes. Ornamental tree.
Distribution
Originally from mainland Asia, but currently found throughout tropical Asia.
In Borneo collected in Sarawak, Sabah and East-Kalimantan.
