Description
Mid-canopy tree up to 38 m tall and 83 cm dbh. Stem with white sap. Stipules
ca. 120 mm long, hairy. Leaves alternate, simple, penni-veined, usually hairy
below, margin entire to deeply lobed. Flowers ca. 1 mm diameter, yellowish,
fused into a large elongate flower body. Fruits ca. 110 mm diameter,
yellowish-brown, globose, spiny syncarp filled with many seeds within white
flesh.
Ecology
In undisturbed to slightly disturbed mixed dipterocarp, keranga and sub-montane
forests up to 1300 m altitude. On alluvial sites, hillsides and ridges with
sandy to clay soils. In secondary forests usually present as a pre-disturbance
remnant.
Uses
The wood is locally used. The bark is used to make basket straps. The latex
is used as bird glue. The fruits and seeds (roasted) are edible.

Borneo (throughout the island), Philippines.
