Description
Mid-canopy tree up to 35 m tall and 77 cm dbh. Stem with white sap. Stipules ca. 28 mm long, glabrous to hairy. Leaves alternate, simple, penni-veined, glabrous. Flowers ca. 0.5 mm diameter, yellowish-brown, flowers fused into globose flower body. Fruits ca. 100 mm diameter, yellowish-brown, spiny syncarp with many seeds within orange flesh.

Ecology
In undisturbed to slightly disturbed mixed dipterocarp and sub-montane forests up to 1500 m altitude. On hillsides and ridges with sandy to clay soils. In secondary forests usually present as a pre-disturbance remnant.

Uses
Wood used for heavy construction, furniture and boat building. Fruits are edible and locally sold in markets.

Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo (Sarawak, Brunei, Sabah, East-Kalimantan).
