Description
Emergent tree up to 54 m tall and 63 cm dbh. Stem with white sap. Stipules
ca. 4 mm long, hairy. Leaves alternate, simple, penni-veined, hairy below,
sometimes feeling sand-paper like. Flowers ca. 1 mm diameter, white-yellow,
flowers fused into globose flower body. Fruits ca. 55 mm diameter, greenish,
smooth syncarp with seeds surrounded by pinkish-red flesh.
Ecology
In undisturbed to disturbed mixed dipterocarp forests up to 600 m altitude.
On alluvial sites near rivers and streams, and on hillsides. On clay soils. In
secondary forests usually present as a pre-disturbance remnant.
Uses
Fruits are edible.
Distribution
Borneo (Sabah, South- and East-Kalimantan).
