Knema glauca (Blume) Petermann, Pflanzenreich (1838-1845)
Latin for 'blue-green'.

Description
Sub-canopy tree up to 21 m tall and 49 cm dbh. Stem with red sap. Stipules absent. Leaves alternate, simple, penni-veined, glabrous, whitish below. Flowers ca. 4 mm diameter, reddish, placed in bundles. Fruits ca. 23 mm long, yellow-orange-red, glabrous, dehiscent capsules. Seeds with yellow-orange-red almost undivided aril.

Ecology
In undisturbed mixed dipterocarp and swamp forests up to 300 m altitude. Found along rivers and streams and in swamps on clay to sandy soils. In secondary forests usually present as a pre-disturbance remnant.

Uses
The timber is used. The seeds are used for vegetable oils and fats.

Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Bali, Borneo (Sarawak, Sabah, West-, Central- and East-Kalimantan).
