Latin for 'with short stiff hairs'.
Description
Sub-canopy tree up to 28 m tall and 28 cm dbh. Stem with red sap. Stipules
absent. Leaves alternate, simple, penni-veined, glabrous to hairy, whitish
below. Flowers ca. 7 mm diameter, green-creamish, placed in bundles. Fruits ca.
30 mm long, orange-red-brown, hairy, dehiscent capsules. Seeds with nearly
undivided red aril.
Ecology
In undisturbed mixed dipterocarp to sub-montane forests up to 1000 m
altitude. Usually on hillsides and ridges, sometimes on periodically inundated
sites. On clay to sandy soils. In secondary forests usually present as a
pre-disturbance remnant.

Borneo (Sarawak, Sabah, Central- and East-Kalimantan).
