Description
Sub-canopy tree up to 24 m tall and 46 cm dbh. Stem with red sap. Stipules
absent. Leaves alternate, simple, penni-veined, hairy below, whitish below.
Flowers ca. 9 mm diameter, white-pinkish, placed in bundles. Fruits ca. 27 mm
long, yellow-orange-brown, densely hairy, dehiscent capsules. Seeds with nearly
undivided red aril.
Ecology
In undisturbed to slightly disturbed (open) mixed dipterocarp, keranga and
sub-montane forests up to 1200 m altitude. On hillsides and ridges with sandy
soils. In secondary forests usually present as a pre-disturbance remnant.
