Syzygium havilandii (Merr.)

Named after G.D. Haviland [1857-1901], a British physician and plant
collector in Sarawak.

Description
Upper canopy tree up to 50 m tall and 70 cm dbh. Stipules absent. Leaves
opposite, simple, penni-veined, venation inconspicuous, glabrous. Flowers ca. 8
mm diameter, white, with protruding stamens, flowers in panicles. Fruits ca. 16
mm diameter, green-yellowish, fleshy berries.
Ecology
In undisturbed mixed dipterocarp, keranga, (peat)-swamp and sub-montane
forests up to 1330 m altitude. Often on alluvial sites, but also common on
hillsides and ridges. Usually on poor sandy soils, but also on clay. In
secondary forests usually present as a pre-disturbance remnant.
