Latin for 'from Ceylon', current Sri Lanka.

Description
Upper canopy tree up to 46 m tall and 58 cm dbh. Stipules absent. Leaves alternate, simple, penni-veined, glabrous. Flowers ca. 9 mm diameter, white-yellow, placed in axillary bundles. Fruits ca. 16 mm long, green, drupes.

Ecology
In undisturbed mixed dipterocarp and sub-montane forests up to 1000 m altitude. Usually on ridges and hillsides, but also on alluvial sites along or near rivers and streams. Usually on sandy soils, but also on clay and limestone. In secondary forests usually present as a pre-disturbance remnant.

Uses
The wood is locally used for house construction.

Southern India and Sri Lanka, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Borneo (throughout the island).
