Description
Shrub up to 2 m tall and 2 cm dbh. Branches spreading horizontally, making
the plant often wider than tall. Stipules ca. 10 mm long, leaf-like, hairy.
Leaves opposite, simple, penni-veined, hairy, strongly asymmetrical leaf base.
Flowers ca. 5 mm diameter, white-pinkish, placed in axillary bundles. Fruits ca.
8 mm diameter, blue-purple, berries.
Ecology
In undisturbed to slightly disturbed (open) sites in mixed dipterocarp,
swamp and sub-montane forests up to 1000 m altitude. Often on hillsides and
ridges, but also common on alluvial sites and near rivers and streams. On clay
to sandy soils. In secondary forests usually present as a pre-disturbance
remnant.

Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Lesser Sunda Islands, Borneo
(throughout the island), Philippines, New Guinea.
