Latin for 'silky', referring to the hairs.

Description
Sub-canopy tree up to 30 m tall and 38 cm dbh. Stem with white sap. Stipules ca. 2.5 mm long. Leaves alternate, simple, penni-veined, densly hairy below, yellow-golden lower surface. Flowers ca. 13 mm diameter, white, placed in axillary bundles. Fruits ca. 18 mm long, yellow-brown, drupes.

Ecology
In undisturbed to slightly disturbed (open) mixed dipterocarp, keranga and sub-montane forests up to 1300 m altitude. Often on alluvial sites along rivers and streams, and on hillsides. Generally on clayey soils, but also on sand and limestone.

Distribution
Borneo (throughout the island).
