Named after A.C. Maingay [1836-1869], a British physician and botanist.

Description
Emergent tree up to 77 m tall and 93 cm dbh. Stem with white sap. Stipules absent. Leaves alternate, simple, penni-veined, glabrous. Flowers ca. 5 mm diameter, white, placed in axillary bundles. Fruits ca. 31 mm long, green, drupes.

Ecology
In undisturbed mixed dipterocarp, swamp and sub-montane forests up to 1700 m altitude. On hillsides and ridges with sandy to limestone soils. In secondary forests usually present as a pre-disturbance remnant.

Distribution
Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo (throughout the island).
