Latin for 'thickets or scrub', referring to its habitat.

Description
Mid-canopy tree up to 33 m tall and 59 cm dbh. Stipules absent. Leaves alternate, simple, penni-veined but venation barely visible, glabrous, margin usually slightly toothed. Flowers ca. 16 mm diameter, white-pink-yellow, placed solitary in leaf axils. Fruits ca. 11 mm diameter, green, berries.

Ecology
In disturbed (open sites) to undisturbed mixed dipterocarp, coastal, keranga and sub-montane forests up to 2400 m altitude. Often near or along rivers and streams and on ridges. On sandy to clay soils and on limestone.

Uses
Firewood.

Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Borneo (throughout the island).
