Description
Mid-canopy tree up to 40 m tall and 75 cm dbh. Stipules absent. Leaves alternate, simple, penni-veined, usually glabrous, margin toothed. Flowers ca. 33 mm diameter, white, placed in leaf axils. Fruits ca. 14 mm diameter, green-brown, dehiscent capsules with winged seeds.

Ecology
In disturbed (open, exposed sites) to undisturbed mixed dipterocarp, keranga, coastal and sub-montane forests up to 1500 m altitude. Usually on exposed ridges with sandy soils, but also on clay.

Uses
The timber is locally used in house construction, for furniture and for boats.

Distribution
From the Himalayas, southern China and southern Japan to Java, Borneo and the Philippines. In Borneo collected throughout the island.
