In this study, phylogenetic analyses of sequences of the plastid matK gene and nrITS regions of the large and taxonomically complex orchid genus Bulbophyllum are being performed to produce an evolutionary based classification. In addition, isolations of MADS-box genes in Bulbophyllum and a study of their expression during pollinia development are planned to evaluate their phylogenetic potential for molecular systematic studies in orchids.
