With Dr. G. Lokhorst we are investigating the species relationships within the freshwater genus Tribonema. We are especially interested in determining if morpho-species correspond to phylogenetic (molecularly-derived) lineages. The issue of accurate ‘species’ identification in this morphologically simple alga can be important in determining the utility of biodiversity surveys in freshwater environments.
