Choose in the opening screen the collectiongroup you are interested in from the collections listed in the left hand column. If you choose "All collections" you get access to all the data in the database including the Type specimens! If you are only interested in particular collections listed under "Special Collections" or "Historical Collections" you choose one of these.

After having chosen a collection group, a query screen appears as presented below. The top line holds a "Types only" box which can be checked or not to indicate whether the result should only show results for type collections (checked) or for all collections (unchecked). The "Types only" line is always shown above the box meant for entering the family name except for wood collections where one can choose to only get results for which there are images of microscopic slides (box checked) or all (box unchecked).

One or more query strings can be entered. If the complete name is not known or one is not sure about the exact spelling, wildcards can be used: a * for any number of characters and a ? for any single character.
After a left-hand mouseclick on category headings like "Family" or "Author", an alphabet is shown on the right hand side. After another left-hand mouse click on a letter of the alphabet, the families or author names starting with that letter are shown. The names listed represent names of entities that are present in the database. If a name is not listed, data pertaining to that name will not be present in the database or they may be kept under a different name.
