Notes: This species was/is cultivated for fodder and alfalfa. It escapes easily from cultivation, hence 'urbana'. Lotus was used for different types of wild legumes. According to Dodonaeus it 's local name was derived ' om dattet suen mael tsdaechs sÿnen rueck verliest ende wedercrÿght als gheseÿt es' (because it is told that this herb looses and regains its sent seven times a day). Lucerne was used to cure swellings and it was applied together with honey to reduce scar tissue. It would help clean out the eyes and it would be able to cure fresh wounds.
