Born: 1882, Aarau, Switzerland. Died: 1959, Geneva, Switzerland.

 

career:

A botanist who took his degree at Zürich in 1907; 1908-19 at Bonn and Basel in various functions; in May 1919 appointed Botanical Assistant of the Central Java Experiment Station (Salatiga), 1920-21 Director of the said institution; Sept. 1921-Sept. 1931 Botanist of the Malang Experiment Station in E. Java and subsequently Head of the division Tropical and Subtropical cultures of the ‘Institut international d’Agriculture’ at Rome.

His most important paper is ‘De ziekten van de koffie’ (The diseases of coffee).

 

Collecting localities:

Centr. Java: G. Merbaboe (July 4, 1920); Java (1926); S. Sumatra, Benkoelen: G. Dempo and G. Kaba (May 1928).

Herb. Bog. [BO]: 8 nos from Sumatra and also Java plants; Herb. Bot. Gard. Berne [BERN]: Coffea seed (pres. 1924), material of Pseudocolus gardneri (pres. 1930).
