career:

Was employed as Botanical Collector by the Forestry Bureau, Manila, c. 1903-04.

Author of ‘House plants and how to grow them’. 

Pavetta barnesii Elmer was named after him.

 

Collecting localities:

c. 1903-04. Philip pine Islands: Masbate; Luzon: in Lamao Forest Reserve, Bataan Prov. (Oct. 1903-Apr. 1904);1 also in Benguet (May-June 1904).

He collected in behalf of the Bur. of Forestry, Manila, at least partly numbered in the F(or). B(ur). series; 313 nos from Lamao Forest Reserve; 306 from Bataan etc. in Herb. Manila [PNH]; c. 300 dupl. in U.S. Nat. Herb. Wash. [US]; also dupl. in Herb. Leiden [L].
