career:

Educated at the Horticultural School at Frederiksoord, was appointed Asst Curator, in charge of the Mountain Garden at Tjibodas (W. Java) in Dec. 1921; in Nov. 1927 he was transferred to the Buitenzorg Botanic Gardens.

He is the author of an illustrated guide of Tjibodas (1927), of a revised list of the numbered trees and shrubs in the mountain forest near Tjibodas, and of publications on ornamental plants.1

He is commemorated in Sindora bruggemanii de Wit.

W.Java: G. Gedeh, Tjibodas (1924-27); G. Bèsèr (Tjiandjoer) (1929); Centr. Java: Tjilatjap and Noesa Kambangan (Febr. 1929); W. Java: Tjibodas (Sept. 1931); Wijnkoopsbaai (Nov. 1931).

Large number of plants (834) in Mt Gedeh Nature Reserve, which formed the basis of the now destroyed local herbarium at Tjibodas. Herb. Bog. [BO]: 31 nos from Tjilatjap and Noesa Kambangan; coll. Wijnkoopsbaai together with Hagen, etc.; Java dupl. in Herb. Leiden [L].

The numbers of his collections exceed 3744.
