Died: 1933, Ar Molek Estate in Indragiri, Sumatra.

 

career:

At first in the employ of a commercial firm in Deli (Sum. East Coast) and since 1900 in agriculture in Indragiri, Centr. Sumatra. He was one of the pioneers of rubber culture in Sumatra, but nevertheless he died in poverty.

Diplazium burchardi Rostenst. and Sarcochilus burchardianus Schltr. were named after him.

 

Collecting localities:

Ferns from Centr. Sumatra, Indragiri (coll. 1906-07), e.g. near Sg. Lala.

Plants were forwarded to Dr E. Rosenstock who described some new species1 (Herb. Rosenstock = Berlin [B]). Some dupl. in Herb. N.Y. Bot. Gard. [NY], in Gray Herb. [GH], and in Herb. Leiden [L].
