Born: 1914, Singapore.

 

career:

Son of I.H. Burkill (see there), studied natural sciences at Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge University (B.A. 1936, M.A. 1939). From 1938-41 employed by Dunlop Malayan Estates; 1942-45 Military Service; 1946-48 with Dunlop Malayan Estates again; from 1948-54 in the Botanical Division, Rubber Research Institute, Kuala Lumpur; 1954 appointed Assistant Director of Botanic Gardens, Singapore; since 1957 Director. Retired mid-1969; he has now joined the Kew staff under the Bentham-Moxon Trust to revise Dalziel’s ‘Useful Plants of West Africa’.

Selatan (Nov. 18-22); Sungei Buloh, Selangor (Nov. 23-26).-1957. P. Satuma, P. Senang, etc. (Jan. 30-Feb. 3, Aug. 2-6); Malacca (Apr. 19-20), Fraser’s Hill (Apr. 30-May 4); Thailand, Kanburi Prov. (Nov. 25-27).-1958. P. Satuma, P. Senang, etc. (Feb. 15-19).-1959. Johore (June 21-29, July 13-24); Fraser’s Hill, Pahang (Aug. 25-29) with M. Shah and M. Nur bin Juma(a)t.-1962. Certainly at many other places during his stay in Singapore.
