career:

German Government Gardener in Cameroon (collecting there from 1898-c. 1907), who made a study tour to Java etc. in 1906-07.1 At Singapore and Buitenzorg he was introduced by Schlechter.

Habenaria deistelii Schltr. was named after him.2

Sailing from Genoa (Oct. 1906); Singapore and Botanic Gardens; W. Java: Buitenzorg and Botanic Gardens; Tjipetir; Tjinjiroean; Tjibodas; setting out (Jan. 8, 1907) to E. Java: Pantjoer Estate on the slopes of the Idjen Plateau; Petoeng Estate near Djember; Soerabaja; Centr. Java: Djokja (visiting the temple ruins); W. Java: Buitenzorg; Singapore, P. Penang; Ceylon.

He presented his collections to Schlechter;3 with Herb. Schlechter in Berl. [B]: some Orchidaceae and Burmanniaceae collected on G. Pangrango (probably collected during his stay at Tjibodas) and G. Wilis (in the cited report no mention is made of this mountain, nor of a stay in the neighbourhood), etc.
