career:

Horticulturist, Student-Gardener in the University Botanic Garden at Amsterdam; probably about 1840 already a resident in W. Java ( ? Assistant on Pondok Gedeh Estate); in 1847 appointed Assistant Curator in the Botanic Garden at Buitenzorg, at least in 1848 stationed at Tjipanas; he was dismissed in 1849, as he was imprisoned on account of shooting an Indonesian.1 After his release in July 1854 he was assisted by Teijsmann in starting a floricultural garden at Batavia.

 

Collecting localities:

About 1840-49. W. Java: G. Salak, G. Gedeh-Pangrango, Pondok Gedeh, Megamendoeng, Tjibogo; Centr. Java: Tjilatjap, Noesa Kambangan (S of Java); E. Java: Soerabaja.

Herb. Leiden [L]; principally ferns, lycopods and lichens, but other plants too. Partly described by various authors.2
