Is cited by Merrill in Enum. Born. Pl. 1921, as the collector of some orchids, viz of Aerides odoratum Lour. in Sarawak, NW. Borneo.

 

collections:

Probably especially orchids. In Herb. Kew [K]: 18 nos from India, 1882, from a Gibson (per Veitch); and plants from India, 1841-60, collected by Alexander Gibson (1800, Lawrencekirk, Kincardineshire; 1867, Bombay, Br. India). In Herb. Brit. Mus. [BM]: 153 plants from Buenos Ayres (pres. 1901), collected by Ernest Gibson.

We do not know whether one of these collectors is identical with the above-mentioned. In the biography of Alexander (see below) no mention is made of any voyage to the Malaysian region.
