Born: 1884, Randers, Jutland, Denmark.

 

career:

Chief of the laboratory of an oil-factory near Aarhuus, since 1930 Sub-Director of the same. He made a study tour to the Dutch East Indies, Malaya and China, to make investigations on the properties of oleiferous seeds and on the copra problem. He was for some time a guest of the Herbarium and the Foreigners’ Laboratory at Buitenzorg.1

Bulbophyllum gravenhorstii J.J.Sm. was named after him.

 

Collecting localities:

W. Borneo: Upper Kapoeas (1916), Landak (1917).

He sent some living orchids from the above-mentioned localities to J.J. Smith, Hort. Bog., some material of which probably preserved in Herb. Bog. [BO].
